The joys of attending an “un- conference” and social media continues at a frantic pace… |
On Saturday 11th July I joined around 120 other geeks at Bar Camp 3 in Auckland.
This was an “un-conference” and was a great way to network and find what other people thought was interesting and important.
I co-presented in two sessions and the discussion from the floor really made the whole thing very interactive and collaborative.
We found a large take up of social media users – with a single sole person admitting they didn't have a twitter account – and many of the participants having more than 5 separate accounts.
The beauty of the “un-conference” is that anyone can present on any topic based under several streams of topics.
The rooms and timetable are added to a whiteboard and people write what they want present on – and folks turn up to participate.
There were several joint presentations and some great humour added to an excellent day.
The venue (Botany Downs Secondary College) was fantastic with a central area and the 5 meeting rooms off that – there was also a big screen that showed a steady Twitterstream of comments made by participants.
It was a day of geekdom and social media was very much in evidence with geeks everywhere playing on all aspects of devices from the latest iPhone launched the day before to laptop and iBooks.
Shame the wifi couldn't handle the load…
